Amritsar, July 16
A workshop on making murals and innovative gift décor items from waste material generated every day, including paper, fibre glass, embellishments and even coins, was held as part of the women’s week celebrations at the art gallery here today. The workshop was organised by Bharti Malhotra.
Medicaid hospital director Balvinder Grover was the chief guest on the occasion. “Making gifts packs has become a vocation. It offers good returns. If you learn the art of gift packing, it may be of your personal use or you may encash the idea. Everything has to be marketed or packaged attractively to make it look good. That is why this genre of art has developed rapidly,” said Bharti.
The demonstration was held in lush green lawns of the gallery as a part of Indian Academy of Fine Arts (IAFA) fifth summer art camp programme. IAFA president Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Tajinder Chhina, Arvinder Singh Chamak, Pushpinder Singh, Atul Mehra and all women artists, besides students were present in the programme.
Convener of the camp, Dr PS Grover, described the purpose of learning the art of gift packing to budding artists.
Later, Mr and Miss Face of Amritsar contest was held at the art gallery in the evening. Youngsters selected from the city showed their talent on the stage. Aspiring models walked the ramp in different rounds and showed off their dance skills. Choreographers Kartik Khehra, Shivam Bawa and Sia Silwani prepared them for the glamour walk.
“The purpose of the competition is to encourage more youngsters from the city to come out and express themselves, whether it’s in creative or any other field. We provide a platform, which helps them shun inhibitions, build confidence and also come into spotlight,” said Naval Kishore, organiser of the event. Former MP and Congress leader OP Soni was the chief guest of the event.
