Android users can now send video messages on Google Hangouts

Google has rolled out an update for its Hangout app, allowing users to record and send video messages to other users.

The video messaging feature was first launched on Hangouts for iOS, in 2014.  Now, Google has released the feature to Android users too. The latest Hangouts v11.0 update will be compatible with both Android and iOS platforms.

Earlier this year, Google increased the duration limit on video from 10 seconds to 1 minute on Apple’s OS. But, the latest update has further increased the duration limit to 2 minutes on iOS.

However, for the Android users the duration limit will be just one minute. In addition, the update will no longer allow Android users to use merge conversation, a feature that merges your Hangouts and texts (SMS) messages in same conversation.

In a support page, Google explained, ‘We have decided to remove it, because it caused user confusion and had low usage.’

Google has released the new Hangouts update on Google Play, but the release is not available for India as yet.
