Shaw sacrificed holiday for United – Mourinho

The Portuguese boss lead his side for the first time since he was appointed as manager last month and got the season off to the best possible start.

“He was mad to play for more than just 45 minutes but for me it is better 45 safe minutes than more, so let’s go step by step”.

“I’m very happy, the result obviously is not the most important thing but it is always important”, he told MUTV. “He sacrificed his holiday”, Mourinho said.

“I am trying hard”.

Shaw, 21, looked composed and fit, even in such low-key surroundings, and is clearly relishing the challenge of re-establishing himself in the United line-up under the new manager.

“Everybody played, everybody had a positive performance, so I’m happy”. The main thing is to get through pre-season and to be ready.

The bookmaker have made Ronald Koeman’s side 2/5 favourites to sign the Spaniard with Jose Mourinho unlikely to keep the midfielder after falling out with Mata whilst at Chelsea.

Mourinho gave debuts to summer signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who arrived at a cost north of £55million, and saw plenty to please him.

Mourinho said he was pleased with his players after the match, and thought they were starting to buy into his way of thinking.

Manchester United are said to be looking to recoup at least £20m from the £37.1m they paid Chelsea for Mata in what would be an excellent signing for Everton as they look to recover from a awful campaign in 2015/16.

“It is nice to feel that the things I liked in the game they also liked, you could feel from some of their reactions that they liked it”.

Pereira, who struggled for regular first-team action under Louis van Gaal, sealed the win with a stunning strike in the 58th minute and Mourinho is excited about the 20-year-old Brazilian’s potential.

Mourinho will now welcome back the remaining 14 global players to Old Trafford this week ahead of Tuesday’s departure to China where his team plays Dortmund in Shanghai and a Manchester derby meeting with City in Beijing.

“I have two training processes, one for those that are close to (full) condition and one process for the players coming from their holidays”.
