The telecom regulator is all set to hear out the incumbent players
in a meeting scheduled
tomorrow to resolve the
ongoing dispute involving Reliance Jio and incumbent telecom
operators such as Airtel , Vodafone and Idea over inter-connecting
points. Speaking to
CNBC-TV18's Prerna Baruah, Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha said the
interconnect issue
will be resolved very soon Below is the verbatim transcript of
Manoj Sinha\\'s interview to
Prerna Baruah on CNBC-TV18. Q: When will the interconnect issue will
be resolved? A:
Hopefully, the new entrant has got that requisite number of point
of interconnect and if there
is any issue, I think Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)
has called a meeting on
September 9 and TRAI will resolve it. Q: TRAI has called for a
meeting, but as the
department will you not take any action on this matter with the
consultation with the TRAI
itself to address the concern. A: See, they have already called a
meeting, it is their
jurisdiction and hopefully it will be resolved on September 9. Q:
Another lacuna in the
licensing norms, the second concern which the incumbents are
focussing right now, is that
there is no clarity on the licensing parameters, so will there be
any review on licensing
norms going further? A: I don’t think that there is any such
question has been by the
participants. They have already clarified their every query and we
hold a conference with
them and all their queries have been already answered by the
department and I don’t there
is any such issue.
