The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) along with Forest Department and Palghar police arrested the mastermind behind the sandalwood logs smuggling.
The police along with DRI have seized around 450 sandalwood logs reportedly worth Rs 6 crore from the Takwahal godown based on a tip-off.
“After seizing the logs we took the godown’s owner, Asif Mohammed Shaikh, into custody. However, after questioning we learnt that he was unaware of the logs. Subsequently, we alerted our sources and got a tip-off that the accused were hiding in Navi Mumbai, following which they were arrested with the help of the local police,” Intelligence officer, Ajay Ataviya (DRI) told ADC.
